Today’s business idea is something I am interested to build.

So much so that I registered the domain of HiDoctor.

Let’s dive into this business with the Lean Canvas model

Here are the areas:

1: Problems and Alternatives

There are many doctors in different field, but patients are finding it difficult to pick a doctor that suits what they need in a specific area due to lack of information about the doctor.

For example, let’s say a patient needs dental implant. There are so many dental clinics around and every dentist claims to do dental implant. How can a patient pick the right doctor for dental implant?

A similar example would be if a patient needs to do knee surgery, how do they find and search for a doctor that they can trust?

The patients then either rely on word of mouth or read online reviews about the doctor.

When we buy property or car, we know a lot of information upfront about the property/car. But when it comes to choosing a doctor, there are limited information out there.

2: Solution

A doctor platform where we list different doctors in each field and have the following information about the doctor:

-Picture of the doctor

-Languages

-Hospital/Clinic location

-Available booking date and time

-Qualification and certificates timeline 

-Top 3 areas of expertise/areas of interest

-Videos about the top 3 areas of interest

-Panels

-Reviews

-Gallery

By having the top 3 areas, patient will know this doctor has specialised skill or do more procedures in this top 3 area. And by having video, patient can judge whether they like or trust this doctor.

If this particular doctor does not fit what they need, they can go to the next doctor page and do their research again.

3: Key Metrics

There are 3 key metrics to monitor:

[Acquisition] Number of visitors

[Conversion] Number of 1st bookings

[Retention] Number of repeat bookings by the same person, but they book for different doctors in other field

4: Unique Value Proposition

The moat for this idea can’t be built on the first day, but over the long term as more doctors come on the platform and have more doctor page on the platform, patients get more choices in various field (e.g besides booking for braces, they can also book for a prostate surgery) then the platform becomes a valuable place for patients to book anytime when they have healthcare related problem.

Also, it’s a platform where you can view all the doctor’s video in 1 website instead of bouncing to multiple different doctor’s own social media/website.

5: Customer Segments

The customer persona is niche in the sense that these group of patients are educated patients who want more certainty and information about the doctor before they make a decision to even book a consultation.

They value making the right decision in picking a doctor that is the expert in that particular procedure. For example, a dentist can do 10+ services, but he/she may be more well-versed in that 1-3 area. 

6: Channels

Getting Doctors:

-Email Outreach to get doctor on platform 

-Then get referral from doctors that are already on platform 

Getting Patients:

-Build SEO pages

-Organic social media content in video format from different doctors

7: Revenue and Cost

Revenue:

-Listing ranking of doctors (i.e similar like Google search ads)

-Video shooting for doctor page 

-Pay Per Booking, charge doctors for every booking

-Advertise on the platform with banner ads

Costs:

-Videographer for new doctors video

-Developer for updating doctor pages

-Customer support channel for doctors 

-Social media manager

 

5 Phases

Phase 1: Doctors in KL Selangor only

Phase 2: Entire Malaysia

Phase 3: Add Medical Tourism marketing (Indonesia, Singapore) and reach out to local agents

Phase 4: Have telehealth and ecommerce component like HIMS.

Phase 5: Partnerships (Insurance companies’ policy holders, b2b corporate health and wellness programs)
